How to avoid scams

Fraudsters keep using the same tricks. Once you know them, you are much harder to fool.

Signs of a suspicious listing

  • The price is well below the market for no clear reason.
  • The seller is "abroad", "on a business trip" or "in the army" and offers to deliver the car after a prepayment.
  • The photos are taken from the internet, show other number plates, or there are no photos of the documents and mileage.
  • The seller rushes you: "I leave tomorrow", "someone else wants it, pay a deposit".
  • They ask you to move to another messenger and talk only there.

Common schemes

"A deposit to reserve the car"

You are asked to transfer a deposit so the car "is not sold to someone else". After the transfer the seller disappears. Do not pay for a car you have not seen and checked.

A fake payment or "safe deal" link

A "buyer" writes to the seller and sends a link supposedly for receiving the money. The page asks for card details and an SMS code — and money leaves the seller's card. Receiving a transfer never requires an SMS code. autoland.md does not handle payments for cars and never sends such links.

"Calling from the site"

Someone calls or writes in the name of autoland.md, a bank or the police and asks for a code, password or card details. Our staff never ask for them.

A swapped car or forged papers

You are shown one car and sold another; the VIN has been altered, the documents are forged or the car is pledged. Compare the VIN on the body with the documents and check the car's history.

Rolled-back mileage and hidden damage

Have the car inspected at an independent garage and compare the mileage with the service history and the wear of the interior.

How to protect yourself

  1. Talk through the site or the phone number shown in the listing.
  2. Never share SMS codes, passwords, the CVV or the card's expiry date.
  3. Do not follow payment links from strangers.
  4. Meet in person and check the car and documents before paying.
  5. Read our safe deal tips.

If you run into fraud

Click "Report" on the listing or in the conversation — we will block the offender. If you have lost money, call your bank at once to block the card, and contact the police.
